About Us

Shannon bio

We have specific experience with neurological conditions like MS, PD, stroke, and amputees, along with the aging population. In addition, we have certifications in medical therapeutic yoga, LoveYourBrain yoga (yoga for people with brain injuries), Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!) classes, and Pilates.

As we have grown, we have added Sarah who has a specialty in the orthopedic populations like issues with the back, knee, hip or shoulders. She also can perform functional movement assessments and screens for various activities like golf or tennis.

We also have Jennifer who is a master at teaching our group classes, and has multiple years of experience working with older adults with strength, balance, and mobility issues.

Hi!  We are Shannon and Jackie, owners of Life in Motion Gym and physical therapists.

We saw a gap in the current healthcare system that when our patients were discharged there was not a safe place for them to continue working out and making progress.  Then they would come back to us starting at square one.

That’s why we opened our gym!  We think it is so important to offer well researched, specialized wellness programs after you are discharged from physical therapy.

We want you to live your best life and stay as independent as possible while enjoying the activities you want to do and spending time with the ones you love.

FAQs

Do you take insurance?

As we do not perform traditional physical therapy, we do not accept insurance for physical therapy benefits. However, we do qualify and accept gym membership coverage. This may include Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, Active & Fit, Renew Active and One Pass from United. We encourage you to reach out to your insurance to see what your benefits might include as some will reimburse expenses toward gym membership/fitness services.

What are the costs?

We do encourage you to schedule a free consultation to discuss options as not every service is ideal for each client and you can discuss this in detail with your fitness professional. However we can give a rough estimate for planning! Our group classes are $20/class or less. Our personal training sessions range from $40 to $85. And our gym membership is $60/month unless covered by insurance. This can often be fully covered by insurance with your contribution being $0! There are other qualifying discounts, such as a spouse/buddy discount, frequency discounts and more, so again we encourage you to stop in and see what works best for you!

What is the first step if I think I might be interested?

You can call us at (412) 213-8524, email at info@lifeinmotiongym.com or fill out the ‘Contact Us’ form on our website. We will be happy to answer any questions and schedule you for a free consultation. During this free consultation, we take some measurements of your baseline mobility and fitness. We will use this information to determine the most optimum and appropriate program for you!

Can I come here with a script for physical therapy from my doctor?

We do not do traditional physical therapy at our gym. However, we can often be beneficial as a service that complements physical therapy or as a service that is optimal once physical therapy services have been completed. Reach out with questions and we can help to direct you to the option that would benefit you most at this time.

Do you need a gym membership in order to take the classes or personal training sessions?

No- the gym membership reflects the ability to attend the gym at your leisure and complete your own independent program for as short or as long as you would like. The group classes and training sessions are separate from this and you do not have to hold a membership to be able to attend..

Do I need an appointment to use my gym membership?

Ideally, yes. As we are a smaller, boutique gym, we like to schedule our gym clients so that we can ensure that the equipment you use here is available to you. We also know that appointments (and reminders) can help us all be accountable for keeping up with our gym programs!

What are your hours?

We are generally open from 8-4 Monday through Friday. However, we do offer some evening hours based on need. As a smaller gym, we don’t stay open for very extended hours but are happy to meet the needs of our clients!
